The ’03 thankfully is drier and more balanced than the inaugural ’02, which shows a learning curve. It’s made in the classic Napa mode, with rich, thick tannins supporting blackberry, olive tapenade and sweet oak flavors. Gracious now, the wine should age well for a decade.

This is an inaugural release, made by Napa veteran Cary Gott, grown on the western hillsides above Highway 29. It is 100% Cabernet, classic in its acid and tannin structure, with very ripe cherry compote and cassis flavors. However, it’s too sweet for complete balance and enjoyment.
