Mercer 2008 Spice Cabinet Vineyard Petit Verdot (Horse Heaven Hills)

  1. $33
Far and away the best of the newly released single vineyard red wines from Mercer Estates, this tightly wound Petit Verdot sports firm plum and cassis fruit, wreathed in smoky earth, black tea, licorice and dark chocolate. Delicious now, or cellar it for a few extra years.  — P.G.  (2/1/2012)

Mercer 2010 Riesling (Yakima Valley)

It would be interesting to slip this marvelous Riesling into a blind tasting of Mosel wines. Superb balance and finesse underscore the delicately rendered flavors of peach, apricot and lemon tea. A scent of powdered sugar is the only suggestion of the 1% residual sugar.  — P.G.  (9/1/2012)

Mercer 2007 Riesling (Yakima Valley)

Succulent and deliciously juicy, this is a near-perfect expression of mainstream Washington Riesling. It is a sappy, tangy, lip-smacking wine, expressing ripe apples, Asian pear and lovely hints of grapefruit, pineapple and citrus.  — P.G.  (12/1/2008)

Rather delicate, with 12.6% alcohol yet a distinctly dry mouthfeel, this well-crafted Riesling mingles green apple, pear, lemon zest, grapefruit and melon fruit flavors. Good length and texture, with lemon tea flavors to wrap it up.  — P.G.  (9/1/2011)

Completing a quartet of excellent white-wine releases from Mercer, this lively, balanced Chardonnay comes on steely. It’s clean and textural, with a mix of citrus flesh and rind, apple and melon. There is even a hint of lemon cream, keeping the finish light and refreshing.  — P.G.  (9/1/2012)

Mercer 2007 Chardonnay (Columbia Valley (WA))

Very pleasant, relatively light, showing a pretty mix of citrus and tropical fruit, fresh cream, light toast and a hint of cinnamon. The alcohol rests at 14.1% but feels a bit lighter, and the wine has a pleasing ripeness without becoming fat or heavy.  — P.G.  (9/1/2009)

Mercer 2005 Merlot (Horse Heaven Hills)

  1. $24
First impression is that this is a rather sharp, edgy, oaky young Merlot, without the broadly appealing fruit character that generally differentiates Washington Merlot from its Cabernets. That said, it offers up some nice, toasty flavors from the barrels, a mix of coffee, buttered nuts and mocha streaks running through the extended finish. As the fruit comes up it…  — P.G.  (12/1/2008)
