This wine may lack the dramatic power of its top-flight brethren, but it still satisfies, delivering reasonably complex notes of cherries, rhubarb and olive carried by silky tannins and moderate alcohol. Drink this terrific value over the next year or two.

Milton Park is a lower-priced offshoot of Thorn-Clarke, whose wines often represent excellent values. This Riesling might be a bit broad for aging, but it offers ample green apple and lime fruit and a hint of petrol for near-term consumption.

From the folks at Thorne Clarke, this is a fine counterpart to their good-value red wines. This medium-bodied Chardonnay boasts a silky texture that easily carries the simple citrus and crushed-stone notes. Drink now.
