Monte de Luz 2008 Carquera Cabernet Franc (San Jose)
Rusty colored and leafy on the nose, with fiery spice notes. This is interesting, dare I say it “old school” wine with core acidity and roughness to the mouthfeel and bold cherry, cola and spice flavors. Gets a bit hot at times, but it’s attractive and a well-made wine.

Monte de Luz 2008 Carquera Tannat (San Jose)
Mint, menthol and charcoal aromas are draped over the dark bouquet. Leaden across the palate, with dried black plum, grilled meat and leathery flavors. Turns chewy and tannic on the finish. Not that well balanced but good for its deep prune character and richness.

Monte de Luz 2007 Reserva Tannat (San Jose)
Begins smoky and spicy but soon the aromas fall off to rubbery, burnt and roasted. The palate shows astringency along with cooked tomato, plum and peppery spice flavors. Tannic and tight on the finish.
