Morandé 2005 House of Morande Red (Maipo Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $46
A fine Chilean Cabernet with density, spice, sandalwood, herbs, warmth and mossy berry aromas. The palate has an impressive feel to it, integrated tannins, bold acidity and overall balance, and the finish is long and cool, with cassis and plum flavors that linger. Drink now and over the next two years.  — M.S.  (3/1/2010)

Morandé 2007 Edición Limitada Golden Harvest Sauvignon Blanc (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $22
Pungent and pretty right off the bat, with tangerine and apricot aromas. The viscosity and texture are excellent, while the concentrated flavor profile vacillates between sweet honey and cinnamon and fruity orange. Wonderfully ripe, elegant and pure; drink now through 2013.  — M.S.  (12/1/2011)

Morandé 2000 Edición Limitada Golden Harvest Sauvignon Blanc (Casablanca Valley)

  1. $25
This 100% Sauvignon Blanc dessert bottling is fermented in new French oak, and is aged one year on lees. Rich honey, peach and nectarine fruit could have rendered this wine too sweet and sloppy; instead, its light, gravelly texture keeps it from being too cloying. Honey, mustard grains and light talc on the nose, and a nutty, crème brulee-like finish add elegance…  — W.E.  (8/1/2002)

Morandé 2001 House of Morande Cabernet Sauvignon (Maipo Valley)

  1. $35
This traditional Bordeaux blend is sweet, rich and fruity, with fine balance and true flavors. There’s chocolate, plum and oak on the nose, while licorice and vanilla notes tune up the quality Maipo fruit featured on the palate. Hands down it’s the best wine in the Morandé stable.  — M.S.  (3/1/2004)

Morandé 2007 Edicion Limitada Carmenère (Maipo Valley)

  1. $22
It’s been a while since we’ve reviewed this wine, so this is a fine comeback. Plum, blackberry and rubber aromas are solid, but the real star is the palate, which is smooth and thick, with lush dark fruit flavors and a smoky background. Good, slightly herbal and long on the finish.  — M.S.  (12/1/2009)

Morandé 2008 Gran Reserva Syrah (Maule Valley)

  1. $15
Solid, deep and earthy smelling, with cola, mushroom, violet and tree bark aromas. The palate is smooth and balanced, with dark berry, baked plum, chocolate and spice flavors. Dry, foresty and healthy as can be on the finish. Exemplary for the price.  — M.S.  (12/1/2011)

Morandé 2009 Gran Reserva Syrah (Maule Valley)

  1. $18
A potent, dark style of Syrah, with aromas of black cherry, generous oak, leather and vanilla. Shows overdrive on the palate, with forceful tannins and concentrated flavors of blackberry, graphite, black licorice and wood resin. Fruity and long on the back end; drink now through 2013.  — M.S.  (6/1/2012)

Morandé 2008 House of Morande Red (Maipo Valley)

  1. $50
Ripe blackberry, graphite, balsam wood, vanilla and kirsch aromas combine to provide a fine opening to this Cabernet-led blend. The palate is smooth and layered, with cherry, cassis, vanilla and herbal flavors. On the finish, it’s a bit thick in feel, with moderate complexity. Drink now–2016.  — M.S.  (6/1/2013)
