Mosaic 2002 Reserve Chardonnay (Alexander Valley)

  1. $28
At four-plus years, the wine is hanging in there, maintaining fruit and freshness and picking up some aged, dried pineapple and peach character. It’s an interesting wine, picking up textural complexities, but needs to be drunk soon.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Mosaic 2004 Malbec (Alexander Valley)

  1. $25
If you know those Argentine Malbecs, you know what you’re in for. This is a dark, huge, tannic, explosive red wine, with massive blackberry and cherry, cocoa and sweet leather flavors. It’s perfectly dry, but quite a bit softer than those from Argentina. Drink now with barbecued steak.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Mosaic 2004 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc (Alexander Valley)

  1. $20
Great price for a wine of this complexity and satisfaction. It’s dry and crisp in acidity, with a wealth of lemon, lime and grapefruit citrus flavors and richer notes of peach pie and yellow apricot purée. Almost seems underpriced for what you get.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Mosaic 2003 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Alexander Valley)

  1. $40
Soft, juicy and direct, this Cab offers lots of pleasure in its elegant balance of ripe cherry-berry fruit, rich tannins and fine acid-oak integration. It’s the kind of Cab made for drinking with food, not worshipping. Should develop well over five years or so.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

  1. $12
This is a clean and easy Sauvignon Blanc. It’s crisp in acidity, with bright, focused lemon, lime, tart green apple, fig and spicy white melon flavors. A nice sipper at a fair price.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Mosaic 2004 Chardonnay (Sonoma County)

  1. $16
Here’s a modest, likeable Chard, a bit soft, with pear, apple, peach and cream flavors. It’s extremely well balanced, and has a satisfyingly long finish. Great with roast chicken or grilled fish with a brown butter sauce.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Mosaic 2002 Merlot (Sonoma County)

  1. $20
Here’s a nice, everyday sort of Merlot with some extra qualities that make it fine with steaks and chops. It displays firm but finely ground tannins and upfront cherry, coffee and licorice flavors.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)

Mosaic 2002 Meritage Red Wine (Alexander Valley)

  1. $40
A little too soft and bland for my taste, although it’s nicely dry, with modest alcohol and finely meshed tannins. Tastes surprisingly thin for this excellent Cabernet vintage.  — S.H.  (12/15/2006)
