A feminine Cab, one that feels delicate and elegant in the mouth but has the power and intensity to beat the crap out of you, if only she were that kind of girl. On the palate, pure black-cherry fruit receives a judicious dose of smooth oak, which fades into chalk on the finish. Very classy, and quite excellent.

Alluring aromas of black pepper, vanilla, chalk and a streak of eucalpytus kick off this excellent wine. Tannins on the palate are still young and dominant, but the wine's attractive black plum and soil flavors will show through in a few years' time. Finishes long and smooth. Drink 2007+.

Aromas are of bright black plum and cassis; more of the same is delivered on the palate, where there are also smooth tannins and mocha accents. This is an excellent, medium-bodied, well-measured wine, where fruit and oak coexist peacefully and seamlessly. Finishes with a burst of black fruit and more mocha.

This Grenache has some dark, smoldering character but it's still a manageable size. Deep black cherry lurks beneath smoke, ash, and cream aromas and flavors. Finishes with fine, chalky tannins. Open a few hours before drinking.

Spice and black pepper is the name of the game on the nose, while youthful plum fruit on the palate is jazzed up with herb and earth. Finishes smooth and minerally; still closed overall, and probably not at its best until around 2008.

70% Grenache and 30% Shiraz, it absolutely needs to be decanted a few hours before drinking. (Straight out of the bottle it pulls that overpowering, cherry-and-alcohol trick that Grenache can play.) Once it settles down you’ll find black cherry fruit and some charcoal-toast accents, which persist through the finish. Not a tannic wine, but packs a whollop with New…

The wine now bears a South Australia appellation because the fruit is coming from Langhorne Creek. This vintage clocks in at 15.5% alcohol, with nutmeg and blackberry aromas. Blackberry fruit is encased in a pretty dark, char-barrel shell at this early stage; tannins are woody and textured. Optimal enjoyment likely 2008–2010.
