Palandri 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot

Roughly two-thirds Cab and one-third Merlot, this red wears a judicious amount of oak, and is drinking well now. At its core is black cherry and plum fruit. Its chalk-clay feel persists through the finish, as does a ribbon of fresh eucalyptus. It’s a solid, well-made wine. 3,500 cases produced.

Aromas are dark and interesting, including black pepper and tree bark notes. Red-fruit flavors are tangy but tempered by a sandy, earthy component and lively acids. Wooly tannins complete the picture. 4,000 cases produced. Imported by Marie Brizard Wines & Spirits.

Has spicy aromas; on the palate, it has a pleasing, zesty spring in its step, like herbs and green apples. In the background, has a persistent butterscotch hard-candy flavor and feel. 5,000 cases produced. Imported by Palandri America.

Palandri 2006 Riesling
It’s the anti-Australian Riesling, with a light, fresh feel, and ripe fruit flavors that verge on the tropical. Pineapple and mango are possibilities, as are other more common fruits: apples, pears, limes and peaches. A simple, fruity quaff that satisfies.
