Owned by Marchese Antinori of Tuscany, Alfredo Prunotto makes a modern style of Barolo. This is elegant, with ripe sweet fruit on the nose. A smoothly polished wine, it is rich in dark fruit and new wood flavors along with solid tannins. There is power here and the Nebbiolo dryness comes through on the finish.

This elegant wine opens with tones of pressed violet, cola, natural rubber and menthol. The wine shows a healthy, vibrant feel with tannins that could use five more years of aging.

Prunotto 2006 Nebbiolo (Barolo)

Prunotto tends to exemplify a ripe, almost jammy style of Barolo with succulent cherry and smoked meat characteristics followed by vanilla, cinnamon, mineral, blackberry and licorice. The intensity is wonderful here but the wine still needs a few extra aging years in the bottle to relax those young tannins.
