Punters Corner 1999 Spartacus Reserve Shiraz (Coonawarra)

  1. $60
Not as wild and robust as you might expect from the name, this offering is instead a silky-smooth blend of mint and creamy chocolate layered over a base of pepper-dusted blackberries. Despite the richness, it never seems overly heavy. Drink now and over the next 10 years. —J.C.  — J.C.  (9/1/2002)

Punters Corner 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon (Coonawarra)

  1. $27
This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine shows why Cab is the grape that made Coonawarra famous. Dense and Port-like in color, the full nose displays cassis, fruit, leather, tobacco, green olive and eucalyptus. Rich and supple on the palate, it still has plenty of backbone. The extracted black cherry flavors, accented by green olive, sun-dried tomato and mint, sit atop…  — W.E.  (9/1/2001)

Punters Corner 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot (Coonawarra)

  1. $27
This assertive, eucalyptus-scented blend is a spunky, personality-loaded blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot. It’s elaborately endowed with sour cherry and cassis fruit, accented by mint, spice, smoke and chocolate flavors on a generous, balanced framework. This big red’s firm but not astringent tannins and balanced acidity promise long life to a wine…  — W.E.  (9/1/2001)

Punters Corner 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon (Coonawarra)

  1. $25
Black as night in color, with coffee, _mocha and heat emanating from the bouquet. Theirs is more than enough edgy cassis and cherry fruit on the palate, but also the slightest detectable note of green vegetable. The finish is a rush of coffee, toast and charred meat. Plump and easygoing.  — M.S.  (12/15/2002)

Punters Corner 2001 Triple Crown Red (Coonawarra)

  1. $20
An unusual wine with bright red fruit, tea, oak and pine needle flavors and dry, chewy tannins in the mouth. The nose has similar permeating green pine-needle aromas. A very good wine; a blend of 67% Cabernet, 24% Shiraz and 9% Merlot.  — D.T.  (5/1/2004)

Punters Corner 1998 Shiraz (Coonawarra)

  1. $26
The tart, sour cherry fruit merely serves to support the leathery, earthy, spicy elements; the fruit never really takes charge. That said, the wine does have plenty to offer. The dried-spice aromas are an attractive blend of cracked black pepper, cinnamon and clove the mouthfeel is smooth and rich. Finishs long, with hints of espresso. —J.C.  — J.C.  (9/1/2002)

Punters Corner 2000 Chardonnay (Coonawarra)

  1. $19
Carmel is the key player on the nose; it persists on the palate, where a hearty helping of zingy citrus flavors nicely balance the carmelly sweetness. Finishes with pear, citrus and toast.  — D.T.  (8/1/2003)

Punters Corner 2002 Shiraz (Coonawarra)

  1. $28
This wine feels well built and sturdy in the mouth, with smooth, integrated tannins. Its flavors and aromas, though, run the gamut from rhubarb to sour stone fruit to slight briary, stemmy notes. Tealike tannins on the finish have a shrill edge. Imported by Scott Street Portfolio.  — D.T.  (10/1/2005)
