There’s an herbal aroma that reminds me of eucalyptus trees, and the wine is very strongly flavored with menthol or, to use the winemaker’s own word, mint. This is said to be a cool area, which may explain why it’s not fruitier. That said, it’s compelling. In Australia, a paddock is an enclosed area, like a corral, where livestock graze. There’s a story to the wine’s name that’s too long to tell here. This surely is a good-quality wine, but it follows a tried-and-true recipe. It offers dusty blackberry aromas, and blackberry and red plum flavors. Shiraz wine is an appealing easy drinker. Spicy and sweet dark-fruit aromas and toasty oak open to a round, full mouthfeel. Blackberry flavors and leather notes hold the sweetness in check.
