Robert Mondavi
One of the preeminent producers from Napa Valley, Robert Mondavi produces wines such as Merlot, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Fumé Blanc.
Founder Robert Mondavi left his family winery (Charles Krug) in 1966, commissioning architect Cliff May to design the landmark Mission-style winery in Oakville. Mondavi served for many years as an ambassador for California wine, striving to raise its quality image as high as that of Europe, and entering into several joint ventures with European wine families, including one with Baroness Philippine de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild to create Opus One.
For his contributions to California wine, Robert Mondavi received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Wine Enthusiast in 2002. Genevieve Janssens, Director of Winemaking for Robert Mondavi was named Wine Enthusiast's 2010 Winemaker of the Year.

Oaky. A bit backward, closed. Lots of primary fruit varietal character in the aroma. Coffee, smoke, ash, cedar. In the mouth, potent blackcurrants, cassis, massive middle. Wonderful tannins, rich, ripe, sweet. The finish is long and intense. 2006-2020.

I far prefer this to the 30th Anniversary bottling. Complete, wholesome, healthy, very delicious. Smoky, ashy nose, cherry vanilla, char. Sweet cherry-mocha flavors, soft, velvety mouthfeel. Combines power with delicacy. Very fine. Now-2012 and beyond.

A monumentally beautiful wine mostly from the famed To-Kalon Vineyard in Oakville. Dark color. Deeply aromatic. Brims with dusty earth, black-currant, and spice. Young, but great already. Opulent, plush and polished, with a solid core of ripe, racy fruit. Notable not only for its impressive depth, but the elegance and finesse of its structure. 1,000 cases produced.
