Roessler 2005 Clos Pepe Vineyard Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $50
Clos Pepe is one of those vineyards that rarely fails to dazzle, and Roessler has done as good a job at interpreting it as any of the wineries that designate its fruit. The wine shows a terrific balance of acids, oak and tannins, with an elegantly silky texture and exquisitely ripe, but controlled, cherry, pomegranate, cola, tea and Asian spice flavors that finish…  — S.H.  (2/1/2008)

Roessler 2007 Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley)

  1. $42
A beautiful, polished Pinot Noir that offers loads of flavor, while preserving the vital acidity that keeps the wine fresh and balanced. Cherries, raspberries, root beer, vanilla, cinnamon and smoky sandalwood flood the mouth, wrapped into a silky texture. Drink now through 2013.  — S.H.  (8/1/2009)

Roessler 2007 Ridges Ollie & Hazel's Block Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast)

  1. $56
This is Roessler’s top Pinot Noir of the vintage. It shows the richness and silkiness of all their bottlings, but with a concentration that makes it especially impressive. Shows black cherry, red and black currant, cola, cinnamon, pepper spice and sandalwood flavors that are deep and luscious. Beautiful now, and should develop through 2012.  — S.H.  (12/15/2009)

Roessler 2007 La Encantada Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills)

  1. $46
The older the vines in this vineyard get the better the wines. Roessler’s ’07 is spectacular, showing massive flavors of black cherries, cola, sandalwood and Asian spices. But even more impressive is the balanced structure. Beautiful now, and should develop over the next 4–5 years.  — S.H.  (12/15/2009)

Roessler 2006 Savoy Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley)

  1. $46
The Savoy Vineyard is one of the best in Anderson Valley. In capable hands like Roessler’s, it yields classic California coastal Pinot Noir. This ’06 is young and tight in acidity, but explosive in flavors, swamping the mouth with cherries, orange peel, red licorice, beef jerky and other savory umami flavors. Just delicious, but young. Best 2009–2012.  — S.H.  (5/1/2009)

Roessler 2009 Hein Family Vineyard Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley)

  1. $46
A lovely Pinot Noir, delicious and sweet in fruit. You’ll find a glyceriney fatness to it, courtesy of high alcohol, as well as sweet, smoky oak. The underlying flavors are wonderfully ripe in raspberries and cherries, and are brightened with fine acidity.  — S.H.  (12/15/2011)

Roessler 2005 Savoy Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley)

  1. $42
From a vineyard in Philo, this shows the grace and elegance of its vineyard’s terroir, with crisp, citrusy acids framing remarkably ripe and pure flavors of cherries, raspberries, red plums, gingerbread, vanilla and cinnamon-spice. Completely delicious and complex, it will hold for six years or so.  — S.H.  (10/1/2007)

Roessler 2007 Blue Jay Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley)

  1. $32
This is the most approachable of Roessler’s ’07 Pinots, and if you’re looking for something to drink now, it offers the most pleasure. Balanced and crisp, it has a lightly silky texture, with a good depth of cherries, raspberries, licorice, bacon, smoky vanilla and sandalwood. Just lovely.  — S.H.  (9/1/2009)
