Roy J. Maier 2005 Sonoma County Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County)

  1. $49
This is a lovely Cabernet Sauvignon that’s drinking well now, although it’s certainly tannic. It should hold well through the next 6 years. Dry and balanced, it shows classic flavors of blackberries and black currants, with earthier notes of olive tapenade and carob.  — S.H.  (9/1/2008)

Roy J. Maier 2003 Sonoma County Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma County)

  1. $60
This inaugural vintage from an ambitious winery is ripe and powerful and oaky, as expensive Cabs tend to be. On the deficit side is overripe fruit, with a raisiny finish and a heavy texture, but the wine is fully dry and does possess some elegance. Drink over the next five years.  — S.H.  (8/1/2006)
