This is a big, lush, lavishly oaked wine that nonetheless pulls it all together with balance and elegance. This is a lavishly oaked wine, filled with scents of caramel, nuts, chocolate, toasted coconut, vanilla and coffee. It completely fills the mouth with creamy, lush flavor—a combination of vanilla and fruit syrup, with complexity added by touches of cracked pepper and meat. So easy to drink now; the only question is its future evolution.

This inky purple sparkler bursts from the glass with assertive blackberry and blueberry fruit, but it’s accented by vanilla, cinnamon and crushed pepper, giving it uncommon complexity. Finishes long and powerful, framed by soft tannins.

A consistent performer in recent vintages, Schild Estate should be turning heads with values like this. The bouquet is intoxicatingly rich and dense, filled with cassis and chocolate fudge, while the texture in the mouth is supple and creamy. Yet the flavors are surprisingly fresh, offering cassis flavors enlivened with dashes of mint and rhubarb. It’s a drink-now…
