Eaglepoint Ranch has been source to powerful red wines for many years, and here’s another one. It impressives for the volume of tannins and fruity ripeness. Swamps the mouth with blackberry and cherry marmalade, bacon, pepper spice and smoky oak flavors that are huge, yet balanced in tannins, oak and acidity. The alcohol is 15.2%.

Made from a 106-year-old vineyard in Napa Valley, this wine is usually referred to as Syrah, but its exact components are difficult to define, except to call the wine Rhône-like. It’s luxuriously soft in the mouth, with complex flavors of black raspberries, cocoa, cola, herbs, peppery spices and sandalwood. Extraordinarily rich, the wine develops bottle nuances as…

With a translucent ruby color and silky texture, this could be a Pinot Noir. But it’s a blend of Sangiovese, Voignier, Mourvèdre and several other varieties, and shows its own unique profile. Dry and crisp, the flavors are fruity, floral, herbal and spicy. Raspberries, cherries, thyme, white pepper, bacon, oregano and smoky sandalwood only begin to describe the…

Elaborate and impressive, in the manner of Sean Thackrey, a big, rich, alcoholic wine with massive flavors. The blackberries and currants are swamped with black pepper and various exotic spices, and the finish is thoroughly dry. There’s nothing shy or subtle about this wine, but it does express what California’s sun does so well.

How many ways can you say delicious? It’s impossible to exaggerate how appealing this light-hearted wine is. It’s vibrant with candied raspberries, pomegranates, orange zest, vanilla, brown sugar and cinnamon spice flavors, yet finishes dry and clean. The blend includes Sangiovese, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre.

So delicately structured, yet so insistently rich, this wine’s texture is pure silk. Tart and dry on the palate, it’s remarkably complex with sweet-and-spicy, brown-sugared raspberry and cherry flavors that give total satisfaction. No reason to age this beauty, just enjoy it now.

Fine acidity and some dusty tannins give structure to this Viognier, grown in a mountain benchland between the Russian River and Napa Valleys. It’s ripe with orange, tropical fruit and kiwi flavors and accented with toasty oak infuences, yet finishes dry and clean.

This rich, layered red wine is a bit jammy and assertive now, and will benefit from a couple years of cellaring to settle down. It’s forward and ripe with cherry and raspberry jam, mocha, roasted almond and cinnamon flavors. A little heavy and heady, yet strangely compelling, and certainly scores high on the deliciousness factor.
