Sinor-LaVallee 2008 Talley-Rincon Vineyard Pinot Noir (Arroyo Grande Valley)

  1. $40
The pedigree of the vineyard shows in this beautiful wine, easily the best of the winery’s 2008 Pinot Noirs. It’s rich and complex in cherry and currant fruit, with a sautéed mushroom earthiness and the smoke of oak. With exquisite acid-tannin balance, it’s beautiful to drink now and for the next six years or so.  — S.H.  (7/1/2011)

A big, fruity and way too young Pinot that badly wants time in the cellar. It’s bone dry and tannic, but with a silky texture that frames ripe, primary flavors of cherries, red currants, cola, bacon and spices, accented with fine, smoky oak. Give it through 2010 to come around, and should age for another six years beyond that.  — S.H.  (3/1/2010)

There’s a fine coastal Pinot Noir in here, but right now it’s buried under fresh, tart acids and astringent tannins. There’s a rich heart of cherries, red currants, cola, bacon, pepper and smoky sandalwood, and the finish is rich and spicy. The wine wants two or three years to come around.  — S.H.  (3/1/2010)

This Pinot is so fabulous, it’s easy to fall in love with. It comes as no surprise that this wine hails from the wonderful Talley-Rincon Vineyard. Light and silky, it’s bright in citrusy acids. Dry on the palate, but with juicy raspberry and cherry flavors, and hints of mineral, spice and smoky oak for complexity. What a nice wine for drinking now.  — S.H.  (5/1/2013)

Sinor-LaVallee 2010 Aubaine Vineyards Pinot Noir (San Luis Obispo County)

Hits the ground running with wonderful flavors of raspberries, cherries, red licorice and toasty oak, anchored by coffee and mushroom notes. The acidity is mouthwatering, and the texture silky and clean. Should easily develop over the next six years, but it’s delicious now as well.  — S.H.  (5/1/2013)

A bit hard in tannins and stinging in acidity, but the lush, ripe flavors make up for it. Offers waves of black and red cherries, cola, licorice and bacon flavors, accented with sweet, smoky oak. Good now, and should develop for a few years.  — S.H.  (3/1/2010)

Fulfills one of the main tenets of California Syrah, which is to feel velvety and vital in the mouth. The vineyard is better known as a source of Pinot Noir, and its cool-climate terroir lend brisk acidity, firm tannins and a cured meat note to the ripe blackberries and currants. Very delicious, and the price is great for the quality.  — S.H.  (5/1/2013)

Sinor-LaVallee 2011 Pinot Noir (San Luis Obispo County)

  1. $30
Good price for a Pinot Noir this elegant and delicious. It’s dry and firm, with zesty acidity and some furry tannins. Flavors of raspberries, cola and buttered cinnamon toast lead to a long, spicy finish. Decant it an hour or two before drinking.  — S.H.  (5/1/2013)
