This is a medium-dry Riesling with plenty of weight and richness, but also wonderfully perfumed aromatics of citrus blossom. Lime and green apple fruit carries the palate, and finishes long, with an almost tactile sense of minerality.
Smells rich and creamy, with peach custard, apple turnover, and cinnamon-smoke aromas and a hint of white chocolate and tangerine peel. The flavors have an oriental complexity, explosive, with waves of exotic fruits and spices, and yet it’s dry as dust.
Wonderfully clean and pure, with aromas of peaches, limes and wet stones. On the palate, there’s soft, ripe stone fruit, but also powerful citrus notes to provide focus. Finishes dry and tart, crisp and refreshing. Imported by Broadbent Selections, Inc.
Aromatic whites seem to be one of the strengths of this winery, named for its proximity to an electronic eavesdropping facility. Flinty, minerally notes add complexity to honeyed pear and citrus scents, while on the palate the citrus flavors show great precision and focus. Long and mouthwatering on the finish. This packs in more intensity than the 2008 version, offering lime-sherbet and mineral notes rounded out by ripe stone fruit flavors. It’s medium-bodied and off-dry, nicely balancing sweetness with crisp acidity.
Round and supple without being excessively weighty, Spy Valley’s 2010 Pinot Noir delicately balances smoky, bacony notes against those of dust-coated ripe cherries. It’s a winning combination that finishes long and elegantly. Drink now–2020.
Spy Valley’s Riesling and Gewürz have consistently scored well, so it is nice to see the Sauvignon finally reach this level of quality. It’s crisp and well-structured, with grassy, herbal notes to the fig and grapefruit flavors, and has an authoritative, rich finish.
Buoyed by assertive lychee and spice notes, this is a bold, aromatic wine made in an off-dry style. It’s full bodied on the palate, with a long, spice-driven finish. Drink over the next 6–9 months.
