A fabulous white Rhone blend of enormous complexity and charm. Fills the mouth with butterscotch, creme brulee, pineapple, stony mineral, vanilla, impossibly ripe white peach and creamy hazelnut flavors, and as sweet as that sounds, the wine is dry and crisp. An enormously complex wine, a real step forward in a California dry white wine. These Rhône grapes blend tropical fruit and peach flavors with tangy minerals and dried herbs. Somewhat closed now, but airing reveals complex mineral aromas of shellac, urethane, citrus, anise and mint. Tastes very dry, astringent and austere. An aloof, challenging wine of low hedonistic value and great complexity. Needs age. 50% Marsanne, 30% Viognier, 20% Roussanne. — S.H. (10/1/1999)

Interesting, complex and different from the usual fare. This Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier blend has nutty flavors subtly enhanced with white peach and tropical flowers. This is the priciest of Tablas Creek’s three new white-Rhône-style releases. A blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul Blanc, it’s rich, dense and oaky.
