A fabulous white Rhone blend of enormous complexity and charm. Fills the mouth with butterscotch, creme brulee, pineapple, stony mineral, vanilla, impossibly ripe white peach and creamy hazelnut flavors, and as sweet as that sounds, the wine is dry and crisp. The greatest Esprit Blanc ever. Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier.

An enormously complex wine, a real step forward in a California dry white wine. These Rhône grapes blend tropical fruit and peach flavors with tangy minerals and dried herbs. Despite the big flavors, the wine has lively acidity, and is a guaranteed cellar candidate for a decade. A blend of Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache and Marsanne.

Somewhat closed now, but airing reveals complex mineral aromas of shellac, urethane, citrus, anise and mint. Tastes very dry, astringent and austere. An aloof, challenging wine of low hedonistic value and great complexity. Needs age. 50% Marsanne, 30% Viognier, 20% Roussanne.

A fascinating wine that weaves tight strands of lemon and mineral flavors. Smooth, silky texture and bright richness offer mounds of pleasure and intrigue on the palate. Long and lush at the end. —J.M.

Interesting, complex and different from the usual fare. This Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier blend has nutty flavors subtly enhanced with white peach and tropical flowers. There’s a hit of smoky oak and vanilla in there, but not too much. Drinks young and fresh, and should improve through 2008.

This is the priciest of Tablas Creek’s three new white-Rhône-style releases. A blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul Blanc, it’s rich, dense and oaky. It shows ripe, concentrated orange, mango and apricot flavors, enhanced by oaky notes, with fleshy weight and density. Not an ager, but a distinctive and enjoyable wine.

Viscous, yet bright and mineral-like with a pretty core of lemon, apple, pear and melon notes. Really sleek and clean, but lush and seductive at the same time. Long and lovely at the end. —J.M.

A musky, animal-scented wine, which may put some sniffers off. If you can get past that, it is superb. Brilliantly fruity, with a mélange of berry and spice flavors, rich tannins, and the good acidity that comes from West Side Paso grapes.
