Tenuta Friggiali 2004 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

This is a fine Brunello Riserva with a thick and pulpy feel that is accented by aromas of cherry, wild berries, currants, exotic spice and pipe tobacco. The wine is smooth and rich with enduring fruit notes and silky tannins. There is a pleasantly sweet note of cherry and vanilla on the long finish. Drink after 2012.  — M.L.  (8/1/2010)

Dark fruit and a meaty consistency make for a bold and delicious first impression. The wine delivers layers of cherry, blackberry spice, leather and spicy tobacco. The wine shows some modern oak touches of vanilla softness, but by no means in an exaggerated fashion.  — M.L.  (5/1/2013)

Tenuta Friggiali 2006 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

This Brunello is characterized by dark, dense extraction that seems packed tight with black cherry, pressed rose, spice, root beer and toasted nut. The wine feels full and opulent on the close but fresh acidity stops it from being heavy or chewy.  — M.L.  (4/1/2011)

Tenuta Friggiali 2007 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

Bright delivery with aromas of cola, root beer, humus, crème de cassis, forest berry and wild raspberry. It shows finely textured tannins with a bitter almond or bitter chocolate aftertaste. Brambly, sharp, acidic and well defined.  — M.L.  (5/1/2012)

Harmony and clean delivery of fruit on the nose and mouth mark this wine. You’ll encounter layers of cherry, blackberry, plum, cola and spice. There’s a dusting of mineral as well and the tannins are silky but firm.  — M.L.  (10/1/2010)

Dark fruit and plum cake open the bouquet and set the stage for the overall aromatic richness and intensity to come. But then, that crisp acidity pops up in the mouth and pulls the wine towards a lighter, leaner side where small berry fruit and blue violets make an appearance.  — M.L.  (5/1/2013)

Cherry-berry, vanilla, herbal notes and forest floor are the dominant aromas. But there’s also a slightly lactic quality in the form of milk chocolate. Not a hugely complex wine, but a straightforward and friendly one with a medium body and a spicy finish. Imported by Vinifera Imports.  — W.E.  (4/1/2006)

There’s a pretty mineral component that adds definition and dimension to this wine. Aromas include slate roof and lead pencil followed by forest berry and blackberry. In all, this wine offers an attractive combination of complexity and concentration.  — M.L.  (5/1/2009)
