Some obvious oak tones of spice and tobacco will integrate with more time in the bottle to give more space to the ripe fruit, mineral and chocolate notes that are already present in very good measure. The wine shows muscle and power with a determined, firm finish.

A concentrated, inky black wine with woodshop tones that are still very evident. Let this wine settle five years to allow for prettier spice tones and more delicacy in terms of its fruit. This is a big chewy wine at this stage with blockbuster tannins. Drink after 2015.

This beautiful blend offers an interesting aromatic profile. Much of the bouquet is driven by such oak influences as toasted almond, hazelnut and dark chocolate, but there’s also a touch of berry freshness to balance out the extremes. The mouthfeel is extra soft and plush.

This shows bold oak tones of toast and spice that will unwind with 3–5 more years of bottle age. Beyond the notes of cinnamon and tobacco, this blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc shows austerity and complexity, with touches of dark plum and tangy barbecue sauce. Give it a few more years.

This is a heavily wood-driven Bordeaux blend from Tuscany with intense aromas of new oak, smoke, toasted almond and plump black cherry. The fruit notes are buried, but they are present, and it should be interesting to see how this wine evolves with two or three more years of bottle aging.

Greppicante is an oaky, spicy blend of Cab Sauvignon, Merlot and Cab Franc with loads of black fruit, asphalt, tar, licorice, natural rubber and concentrated cherry. The wine is bold and chewy in the mouth with firm, succulent tannins that will soften with time.
