Toneles del Sur 2008 Reserve Malbec (Mendoza)

This is rooty smelling, with licorice, root beer, tar and smoky notes accenting berry fruit aromas. It feels unctuous but manages to hold onto its balance, and the flavors of baked berry, black plum and savory herb are on the money. The finish is chewy in feel, with a slightly herbal character.

Jammy and reduced on the nose, with medicinal red berry and plum aromas. The palate is high in acidity, with a mix of herbal berry, roasted plum and leathery, earthy flavors. Sheer on the finish, where the acidity and tannic bite are forceful.
