Vasco Sassetti 2004 Riserva Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

This is a ripe and plump Brunello Riserva with distant notes of band aid or wet fur that don’t distract too much from the overall picture. You’ll also get aromas of wet earth, wild mushroom and pressed flowers and the wine’s intensity and general consistency is very nice. — M.L. (8/1/2010)

Vasco Sassetti 2005 Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello di Montalcino)

Earthy aromas of white mushroom and dried roses that are characteristic of Tuscan Sangiovese are what you notice first here. Tight and chemical at first, with leather and smoke aromas later. Hard on the palate and lacking the flesh typical of Brunello. Simply put, it has the right flavors but it pounds down like an anvil. Maybe time will soften it up. — M.S. (7/1/2005)
