Spicy and earthy, with truffle, toast and strawberry aromas. The palate is bright and smooth, with a well-matched mix of plush fruit and juicy acidity. This is the first Nimbus Estate wine we’ve reviewed, and the early word is that this vineyard can produce Syrah with character as well as size. Imported by Carolina Wine Brands USA Inc.

Three years running and this wine has been impressive since its debut in 2006. The nose is dark and sweet, maybe a touch pasty, but loaded with black fruit aromas. The palate is staunch and secure, with pronounced but proper acidity leading to bright, fresh blackberry and cassis flavors. Toasty and chocolaty on the finish, and impressive as a whole. Drink now…

Opens with lactic, slightly raisiny aromas that turn oakier and creamier with airing. Dense, rubbery and intense on the tongue, with dark flavors of blackberry and herb in the middle. Finishes long, earthy and slightly herbal, with tannic bite and grip. Drink now through 2014.

Baked red-fruit aromas come with tea, orange peel, rubber and creamy milk-chocolate accents. The palate feels complete, with a friendly creaminess that supports the strawberry, plum and vanilla flavors. This is a balanced wine that’s fresh and ready to drink.

A totally correct but well-priced Cab that brings pretty much everything the textbook calls for. The nose features graphite, berry and smoky wood, while the mouthfeel is spot-on and made better by ripe, toasty berry, chocolate and spice flavors. A definite winner at its price point.

Light and fresh up front, with lychee, passion fruit and wet stone aromas. Feels good and balanced as if offers a nice mix of textured fruit and minerally acidity. Flavors of green melon, passion fruit, lime and green herbs come straight from central casting. Perfect for summer drinking.

Pungent off the bat but not punchy, with pure citrus aromas. Feels fresh, with good acidity and overall balance framing layered flavors of lime, orange, grapefruit and lemon. Turns slightly pithy and green on the finish, but by then it has made its mark.

Some hard scratchiness on the nose announces that this has power and isn’t generic. Additional scents of leather, olive and roasted berry are typical for a Maipo Cab. In the mouth, it’s on stride and fresh, while flavors of earth, vanilla and carob accent generic berry and cassis.
