Viviani 2006 L'Amarone della Casa dei Bepi Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

  • Cellar Selection
Wow, here’s a gorgeous Amarone that makes a rocking first impression. The nose is generous and round, accented by plump tones of chocolate fudge, moist pipe tobacco, mesquite spice, cola and Christmas spice or cinnamon. There’s a proud boldness to the tannins and overall structure. Give the wine 5–10 more years.  — M.L.  (12/1/2011)

Viviani 2000 Tulipano Nero Red (Amarone della Valpolicella)

  • Online Exclusive
The ominous sounding Tulipano Nero (“Black Tulip”) reveals a thick, gritty texture and intense aromas of dried fruit, prunes, moist tobacco and cola. Those nuances last long on the palate and are fueled by polished tannins, light mineral shadings and candied fruit flavors.  — M.L.  (12/1/2009)

Thick oak and spice aromas emerge from the bouquet, slowly revealing a solid base of cherry fruit, blackberry and prune. This is a rich and very extracted, dark and chewy wine with an impressively long finish.  — M.L.  (2/1/2011)

Viviani 2003 Casa dei Bepi Red (Amarone della Valpolicella)

  • Online Exclusive
Modern oak notes of toast, vanilla and spice cover some of this wine’s natural freshness and suggest that it could use two or three more years to find balance. That said, there is great complexity here thanks to minimal touches, dried fruit and toasted oak nuances, all present in the right dosages.  — M.L.  (12/1/2009)

Viviani 2007 Red (Amarone della Valpolicella Classico)

There’s a distinctive touch of dark cola and licorice here that frames a solid core of blackberry and cherry liqueur. The wine is darkly concentrated with firm tannins and a soft, sweet endnote of mature fruit and cinnamon spice.  — M.L.  (12/1/2011)

Viviani 2007 Red (Recioto della Valpolicella Classico)

There’s a slight touch of red apple skin at the start of the bouquet, followed by bright cherry and raspberry aromas. This would pair well with chocolate brownies or moist carrot cake.  — M.L.  (12/1/2012)

Viviani 2005 Campo Morar Red (Valpolicella Classico Superiore)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $40
Campo Morar is a sophisticated and rich Valpolicella that sees 18 months of oak aging for extra intensity and density. The wood tones add softness and lingering aromas of vanilla and spice but don’t completely eliminate a sour note on the close.  — M.L.  (2/1/2011)
