Nose offers tropical fruit and caramel aromas, but that’s not quite what you get in the mouth. Doesn’t pack too much fruit flavor into the glass—there are only hints of white peach, plus some oak, on the palate. - D.M.

Very light in color, with brick-tinged edges. That mature look is matched on the nose, which has clove and earth notes. But it is also a lot like sherry, indicating some oxidization. In the mouth, the cherry fruit is too thin and the finish is sharp.

If the supermarket’s out of wine coolers, Wallaby Creek should be your next choice. It tastes like raspberry cheesecake, with very sweet berry fruit and a definite lactic-cream presence. Ditto for the aromas.
