Here’s a good example of a value Chardonnay. It’s clean and fruity, with spicy apple flavors, a focused and lengthy finish, and proper acidity. The whole is better than its parts.

It’s hard to imagine getting a better red wine for five bucks, which makes this one of the best Best Buys out there. On the mark at all check points, with ripe cherry and plum flavors and a clean, smooth finish. Surprisingly solid. Imported by Banfi Vintners.

Dusty cherry and chocolate aromas are uplifted by some flowery notes. Flavors of cassis, raspberry and mild buttery oak make for a correct, pleasant palate. Some additional butter and vanilla flavors are detectable on the finish. Given its price, this wine is fresh and tasty enough, with staying power.

Fruity and ripe, with the full blast of banana, melon and peach aromas. In the mouth, ripe melon and candied apple get a boost from modest acids. Finishes mild and adequately smooth.

Clean up front, with peach and melon aromas. The body is round and smooth, with apple and other ripe flavors. Some lemon essence on the finish keeps things framed. Nice for the price. Imported by Banfi Vintners.

Floral and creamy, with lively fruit and fairly powerful oak. Without having read the label you’d be hard pressed to peg this as Shiraz, but it does taste like a perfectly acceptable everyday red with clean red fruit, some spice and pepper, and even some woody notes and tannins.

Jammy and funky on the nose, with aromas of raspberry candy and some vinegar. Flavors of apple skin and grape juice are acceptable but not developed. Finishes with a starchy mouthfeel and notes of burnt espresso.
