Sturdy and ripe, with beautiful purple-brick color, this is a wine with great pairing potential for lamb or other grilled meats. Black fruit on the nose has interesting accents of water chestnuts, or maybe bamboo shoots. At 90% Cabernet, this wine is pitch black in color, with mustard seed, leather and violets making up the intriguing bouquet. Black cherry is the predominant flavor on the juicy, acid-packed palate. The finish is quite dry, with ample oak and beefy tannins.  — M.S.  (12/15/2002)
