100% Merlot from Hedges North Block on Red Mountain. It’s light, spicy and simple, without the muscle and verve of the state’s best Merlots. The fruit is forward, crisply defined, and tastes like fresh raspberries, with some sharp-edged tannins.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Kiona. Though a bit light for Red Mountain fruit, this is flavorful and shows some complexity. It marries tart red berries with streaks of tar, iodine and licorice, then moves into barrel flavors of mocha and butterscotch. The acids are sharp and feel adjusted, but may smooth out with a bit more bottle age.
