Watershed 2004 Shiraz (Margaret River)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $19
A large, relatively new winery in Western Australia’s Margaret River GI, Watershed has turned out an admirable 2004 Shiraz, boasting a cool-climate note of cracked pepper that accents its raspberry and mint aromas and flavors. It’s crisp and medium-bodied, creamy upfront, then turning firmer on the finish. Drink or hold 3–4 years.  — J.C.  (8/1/2009)

Watershed 2005 Awakening Cabernet Sauvignon (Margaret River)

  1. $25
Lifted and juicy, this impressive effort from Western Australia shows woodsy, cedary notes on a restrained nose. The palate is drenched in gorgeous cassis and cherry cordial fruit framed by gentle tannins. The crisp finish will cut through steak or pork dishes. Imported by America Uncorked.  — W.E.  (2/1/2009)

Watershed 2004 Cabernet Merlot (Margaret River)

  1. $19
The initial impression of the nose is beguiling, with raspberry, cherry and coconut flavors layered on top of wet earth. However, some scents of nail polish remover peek through and refuse to blow off. Nonetheless, the palate shows pleasant plum and blackberry notes encased in polished tannins and finishes with a touch of cassis. Imported by America Uncorked.  — W.E.  (2/1/2009)
