Made from 100% Cab, this wine pours inky black, and feels softly ripe in the mouth, with pie-filling blackberries, cherries, mocha, plums, tobacco and sweet dusty spices. Shows a tannic astringency that strongly suggests cellaring, although it’s flashy now. Best after 2011 and beyond.

Soft, gentle and seductive, with its cherry-chocolate, sweet green olive, vanilla and pecan pie flavors wowing the palate. Best of all are the tannins, which are rich and fine. They provide structure, while being sweet themselves. What a sensational Merlot. It deserves the best food you can rustle up.

Aloof now, this Cab holds you at a distance with its provocative tannins. But it’s a very fine wine that shows real Napa pedigree. Balanced and harmonious, it features complex flavors of blackberries, cassis and cedar wood that turn sweet on the finish. Should be at its best between 2010 and 2013 and then slowly fade away.

Here’s a really good Merlot from a producer that does a great job at it and has kept prices fair for years. It shows the rich tannic structure that Napa so effortlessly achieves, while the great vintage ripened the grapes to blackberry and cherry perfection. Luscious now and for a couple more years.

Made in the modern style of extreme ripeness, softness and deliciousness. Really captivates for its wealth of cherry and raspberry jam, ripe blackberry tart and oak-inspired vanilla and butterscotch flavors. Hard to predict where it’s going due to the softness, but it sure is tasty now.

Very opulent and jammy in blackberry, cherry and mocha flavors, this has a strong oak presence in the form of caramelized wood. It defines Napa richness, but it is too tannic and immature to properly enjoy now. Give it a snooze for 6–8 years.
