Very peppery even for Syrah. Marked also by intense blackberry jam flavors, it’s a full-bodied, tannic bruiser, but one with brooding depth. Decant it a few hours before serving.

A modestly constructed wine, with lots of upfront oak, hints of black cherry, plum and spice, and a somewhat woody finish. Pleasant enough.

There’s too much overripe fruit in this Zin, in the form of dried raisins. It’s a fault, even though the taste isn’t bad. The shriveled fruit yields bitter tannins from the grape skins.
