Wilson 2004 Reserve Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $38
Dry Creek Zins can be rustic, but not this one, which is closer in style to cult Napa Cabernet in the lush, soft, appealing mouthfeel and ripe flavors. It’s enormously high in alcohol, (16.8%) but feels smooth, soft and polished, with raspberry-infused chocolate truffle flavors and Zin’s zesty dusting of spicebox. Absolutely delicious.  — S.H.  (5/1/2007)

Wilson 2004 Carl's Vineyard Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $26
From a 1,700-foot vineyard high above the valley comes this compellingly delicious Zinfandel. A word of caution: The alcohol is 16.6%. But the wine isn’t at all hot, and high alcohol is the price you pay for the lush, ripe fruitiness achieved in this scorching vintage. Brims with cherries, blackberries, raspberries, chocolate and spice, finishing long and dry.  — S.H.  (5/1/2007)

Wilson 2002 Sydney Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Dry Creek Valley)

  1. $44
Classic Dry Creek Cab, with its tobacco-accented, slightly rough-hewn edge and dry, balanced flavors of wild blackberries, loganberries, coffee and fresh sweet herbs. Really a nice wine that’s so different from Napa, and seems perfect for grilled meats, game and poultry.  — S.H.  (5/1/2007)

Wilson 2008 Sawyer Vineyard Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)

  1. $34
Richness alone would earn this Zinfandel a good score, but the overall balance uplifts it. It’s simply delicious in wild berry, spice, mocha, salty bacon, vanilla toast and sandalwood flavors. Yet the tannins are fine, and the acidity is perfect. Even the slightly sweet finish and high alcohol work.  — S.H.  (12/15/2010)

Wilson 2007 Diane's Reserve Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)

  1. $60
A big, soft, ultrarich style of Zinfandel. It has very high alcohol, with flamboyant flavors of milk chocolate, oozingly ripe blackberries and blueberries, anise liqueur and black pepper. The finish is totally dry. Lusty and heady.  — S.H.  (2/1/2010)

Wilson 2007 Sawyer Reserve Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)

  1. $44
This is Zinfandel on steroids, which is the Wilson house style. The wine is dry, full bodied and very high in alcohol, approaching 16%. Yet it’s zesty and exuberant, with a wealth of blackberry, currant and pepper flavors. Distinctly Californian and Dry Creek Valley, it’s a fine example of its type.  — S.H.  (6/1/2010)

Wilson 2007 Tori's Reserve Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)

  1. $44
A big, heavy, full-bodied and ripe Zinfandel that needs rich, greasy meats and cheeses to tame it. The blackberry, currant and dry chocolate flavors are huge, and the tannins are even bigger, giving this extremely dry wine an astringent finish.  — S.H.  (6/1/2010)

Wilson 2007 Ken's Reserve Zinfandel (Dry Creek Valley)

  1. $44
The first thing to know about this Zinfandel is its extraordinarily high alcohol. The official reading is 16%. It’s almost Port, except that it’s bone dry. The tannins are hard, and the flavors are of ripe blackberries. Yet it’s a good example of its type and deserves a good score.  — S.H.  (6/1/2010)
