Finca Sophenia 2008 Reserve Merlot (Tupungato)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $15
Initially it gives off murky, soupy aromas. But with airing it rounds into form, displaying prune and oak scents in front of a round, soft, stewy palate of chunky berry flavors. Gets better with time before finishing with toast, herbal notes and tobacco. Offers more highs than lows.  — M.S.  (8/1/2010)

Andeluna 2006 Reserve Merlot (Tupungato)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $20
Earthy and rubbery, then more leafy and red, on the nose, with raspberry and plum fruit. The palate has a solid, ordinary feel and jammy flavors of baked berry. Standard finish with a fast fade.  — M.S.  (3/1/2011)

Bodega Atamisque 2007 Catalpa Old Vines Malbec (Tupungato)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $16
Opens with a slight chemical-smelling topping to berry, raisin and cheesy aromas. The palate is chunky on one hand and driving on the other, with berry and raisiny flavors. Lush on the finish but raisiny, and overall it settles on soft-bodied and flush.  — M.S.  (3/1/2011)

Alberti 154 2009 Merlot (Tupungato)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $13
Slightly granular smelling and seemingly oversized on the bouquet. In the mouth it folds itself back into standard form, with earthy, jammy flavors of wild berry and spice. Seems a touch heavy and slightly green on the finish, but overall it gets the job done.  — M.S.  (5/1/2011)

Finca Sophenia 2010 Altosur Cabernet Sauvignon (Tupungato)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $12
Rubbery and scratchy smelling on first take, with fiery berry aromas lurking below. After it airs out the wine is juicy and solid, with good balance and dark, spicy flavors of black fruits and chocolate. Tannic and steady on the finish.  — M.S.  (3/1/2012)

Red licorice, rhubarb and green herb aromas are balanced by toast, spice and berry notes. The palate feels hard and dense, with herbal berry and olive flavors. Chocolate and additional herbal flavors carry the finish.  — M.S.  (8/1/2012)

Andeluna 2007 Winemaker's Selection Torrontés (Tupungato)

  1. $13
Clean, pure and lightweight, with aromas of citrus blossom and lychee. The mouth is zesty and crisp, with citrus, lychee and pineapple flavors. Don’t expect miracles and it’ll work wonders as an apéritif. But drink it soon to capture its white-fruit intensity. Tastes better and fresher than Andeluna’s 2006 Torrontés.  — M.S.  (12/31/2008)

Andeluna 2006 Winemaker's Selection Cabernet Sauvignon (Tupungato)

  1. $13
Nice enough but not all that varietal in terms of aromas, flavors or anything. There’s big red and black fruit aromas and flavors along with firm tannins, extract and some pepper. It’s rich and chewy, but also tannic and fairly regular. For the price it should not disappoint.  — M.S.  (12/31/2008)
