Bodega Noemía de Patagonia 2009 Malbec (Patagonia)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $128
A dynamite Malbec with heavy oak and the structure and foundation to match it. Lemon, hickory, leather, marzipan and black fruit aromas are powerful. In the mouth, tannins and extract create a vise grip to frame concentrated blackberry, coconut, pepper and lemon peel flavors. Layered and woody on the finish. Drink from 2012 through 2016.  — M.S.  (12/31/2011)

Bodega NQN 2006 Coleccion NQN Patagonia Universe Red (Patagonia)

  • Best Buy
  1. $15
Dense and beefy at first, then menthol, licorice, blackberry and earth aromas come out on the nose. The palate is deep and well structured, with toasty, dark flavors of chocolate mint along with leathery berry. Finishes with coffee and peppery flavors. Serious and satisfying; 60% Malbec and 40% Cab Sauvignon.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Bodega Noemía de Patagonia 2010 J. Alberto Malbec (Patagonia)

  1. $52
Complex and also ripe and blatantly pleasing. Balsamic aromas blend with cassis, blackberry and citrus peel secents to form an exotic bouquet. It’s solid and firm in the mouth, with lemony oak framing pure berry fruit. Tight, pure and delivers the total package for Patagonian Malbec.  — M.S.  (12/31/2011)

Bodega del Fin del Mundo 2006 Gran Reserva Red (Patagonia)

  1. $30
Roasted at first, with coffee, grilled meat and earth aromas taking the lead. Narrow in the mouth, with firm tannins that frame ripe and healthy raspberry flavors accented by vanilla and cola. A little bit traditional in that it’s earthy and dry, but it’s not devoid of fruit and attitude.  — M.S.  (11/1/2011)

Nemesio 2009 Reserve Malbec (Patagonia)

  1. $18
Lusty, deep Malbec from Patagonia. The nose is a puddle of rich berry, spice and chocolate, while the palate is snappy and alert even if the flavors veer toward roasted black fruits, sweetness, cola and sautéed mushroom. A bit tannic and biting on the finish, with earth and oak standing out.  — M.S.  (5/1/2011)

Bodega Noemía de Patagonia 2010 A Lisa Malbec (Patagonia)

  1. $26
Concentrated and jammy smelling, with a note of iodine to go with racy black fruit aromas. Dense as night in the mouth, with gamey, roasted berry flavors. Turns minty on the finish, with a hint of herbal green. Fruity and nice but lacks that final gear.  — M.S.  (12/31/2011)

Round on the bouquet, with prune, toast and nothing disturbing or out of place. Feels good, deep and healthy, with dark, toasted, black fruit flavors leading to a mildly oaky, slightly minty finish. Ripe, fresh and balanced overall.  — M.S.  (3/1/2012)
