The late-harvest Aurum is Josef Ehmoser’s flagship. The newly released 2008 is bold and ripe, the acidity of the intense fruit cutting through herbs, spice, vanilla and tropical fruits. It is definitely from super-ripe fruit, but Ehmoser manages to retain a delicious balance. Screwcap. Imported by Magellan Wine Imports.

A rich style of wine, very generous, ripely fruity. The classic pepper character of the grape is rounded out by pear, green apple and lime flavors, as well as a concentrated, textured center. Screwcap.

The rich, exposed soils of the Wagram ridge give richness to this wine. From old vines, it is impressive with spice, red pepper, cinnamon as well as green plum and mango fruits. Six months wood aging rounds it out. Screwcap.

The epitome of aristocratic, full-bodied Riesling. This wine has all the rosehip and white flower aromas, followed by structured, fresh, crisp green pear and white currant fruits. There is a great purity of line here, directed by the acidity and the cutting crispness of the aftertaste. Screwcap.

The rare Roter Veltliner is almost entirely confined to the slopes of the Wagram. Here it gives a style that is fragrant, with aromas of hedgerow flowers and delicate roses. Here these characters are combined with a full, tropical fruit character, touches of mango along with intense spice and acidity. Screwcap.

Despite its high alcohol, this wine manages to preserve its balance. That’s because the Grüner acidity creeps through the weight. With his top wine, Ehmoser goes for a tropical fruit profile here, with mangos on top of vanilla and spice. There’s structure too, which suggests this powerful wine could age for 2–3 years.

Harvested on December 15, this rich and sweet wine is light on acidity but heavy on concentrated apricot jam and honey flavors. It is opulent, intense, with a bright ginger spice aftertaste.

Intense, crisp acidity shines on this young wine. It’s concentrated citrus is like sucking a lemon. This character shows its potential for aging. It will will develop richer, secondary flavors over the next 2–3 years. Screwcap.
