Years ago it was a Quails’ Gate Pinot that first convinced me the grape had real potential in the Okanagan, and this exemplary bottle proves the point. Velvety and intense, superbly aromatic, it’s bursting with berries and cherries, highlighted with orange peel and citrus. The balance is impeccable, and the oak unobtrusive.

Absolutely luscious, rich, viscous and full-on, with apricot, peach, caramel crème brûlée flavors at the center. Good acidity leaves a freshness on the finish, with lengthy hints of honey and vanilla.

This wine looks like liquid sunshine and smells like a mixture of tropical fruit nectar, vanilla and pastry dough. Rich flavors of tropical fruits and apple custard coat the mouth, while backing acidity keeps it from being cloying. The finish is mouthwatering and long, with pineapple dominating. Imported by Mark Anthony Wine Merchants.

Many Okanagan wineries turn out respectable Gewürz, but this one has more precision, focus and complexity than the rest, with a detailed mix of citrus and apple fruits, immaculately set against bracing acids. There is some sweetness, which serves to pump up the midpalate, but the acids rule.

The vines, over 30 years old, deliver layered, racy, detailed flavors. German in style, the wine is loaded with citrus rind, honeysuckle, peach and lemon, finishing with minerals and a lick of honey. Intense and tightly structured for aging.

Kettle Valley Winery, on the Naramata Bench, is a rising star. This gorgeous, seductive and silky wine is the perfect expression of Pinot Noir. This is what good Burgundy tastes like, with length, purity and a discreet voluptuousness.

Rich and syrupy, this wine has plenty of acidity to balance, leaving mouthwatering flavors of baked apple and golden raisin. The wine has a long finish with pineapple flavors that coat the mouth. Musky on the nose, showing vanilla bean. Imported by Mark Anthony Wine Merchants.

The finished wine contains 25% residual sugar and 9% alcohol, with a rich bouquet. Golden, intense and densely packed with a rich mix of tropical fruit, pear and baked apple, it feels quite heavy on the palate but still lively, with the crisp definition for which these Canadian icewines are known. The finish lasts for several minutes.
