Plenty of oak is present on this midlevel Shiraz, so expect mint, sawdust and vanilla in addition to generic berry aromas and flavors. The feel is slightly rich and syrupy, so there isn’t a lot of structure or spine. Drink now for its size and sweetness.

A little big and aggressive on the nose, with both plum aromas and grass/alfalfa. The palate is sharper than expected, with staunch acidity creating a tangy sensation, while the flavors steer toward red plum and pie cherry. May be a bit too jumpy and scrappy for some, but will more than make the grade for anyone looking for a decent wine.

Sort of creamy and unconvincing on the nose, with carob and stemmy berry aromas. The palate runs toward red fruit, but it’s also a bit green and herbal. Finishing notes of chocolate and green herbs are typical of Merlot, yet there isn’t enough ripe fruit or excitement. Hence, it’s a mid-level red wine with some green character. Contains 9% Cabernet and 5% Shiraz.

On first blush this smells more like vegetable soup than ripe, friendly red wine. Typical of some Carmenère, it features murky olive, tomato and cooked carrot aromas. The palate is racy and sharper than most, with tangy herbal fruit flavors and then green herbs and tea on the finish. For most, this will be vegetal and possibly unpleasant. Others will like the zesty…

Lightly herbal and light in body, with earthy aromas that include leather, tea and dried fruits. This is medium-bodied in style, with elegance. Problem is, there isn’t much substance to it and compared to Chile’s better Cabs, it pales in flavor and generosity. Also, the finish is kind of scratchy and thin.

Powdery apple and pear aromas lead to melon scents, while the flavors of white fruits, pineapple and banana are sweet and a touch salinic. This is a round, plump, drink-now wine that finishes quickly enough and is never rough or overly demanding.

Yellow in color and floral and oily on the nose; this is one ripe wine. Mango, banana and white pepper flavors give it originality, while the body is plump and just acidic enough to stay upright. Finishes melony with some bitterness.

Aromas of grapefruit and other citrus fruits are decent, while the palate shows true varietal flavors in the form of pickle, green herbs and grapefruit. There isn’t a ton of depth or character here, but the finish is fresh and it washes well across the tongue.
