As good as this winery’s more elite Cuvée Alexandre. Represents one of the best values in the world of Cabernet. Clean, expressive spicy fruit in the nose. Weightless and ripe in the mouth, with a soft, vanilla-tinged ending. For a winery known for powerful oak treatment, this one is mild and is drinkable right away. Best Buy.

This sensational value has a range of flavors, structure and other important characteristics that some wines costing five times more can’t match. The nose is full of plum, black fruit and coffee, while the palate is pure dynamite; it’s a textbook modern Cabernet that hits the target squarely in the center.

The first Cuvée Alexandre Syrah on record is better than adequate; it’s exciting and intriguing, two huge virtues. The nose offers pepper, blackberry and vanilla, while the palate is entirely ripe, meaty and intensely spicy. A real comer amid Chile’s new wave of Syrahs.

All this Cab blend needs is time in the glass and it’ll show floral, alluring aromas and then big raspberry and plum flavors. It starts quietly and then pounds through with saturated fruit, chocolate and firm tannins.

One of the best value-priced, big and rich wines you’re likely to find. The nose impresses with potent blackberry, cedar and marzipan aromas, and the palate bridges the gap between power and elegance. Tastes great, with herbal black cherry and cola leading the way. Very ripe but really well made.

Finely oaked, with lovely cedar scents accenting robust but smooth black cherry and dark plum aromas. Sings a pretty tune in the mouth, with ripe berry fruit, tobacco, toast and a long finish. A significant step up from the first vintage. Imported by Bacchus International.

Big and earthy, with char, savory spice and black fruit aromas. The palate is full and bold, with ripe tannins and delicious flavors of herbs, baked berries, integrated spice and leather. Smooth, long and muscular; made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Syrah.

This is a new wine from Lapostolle, bearing a nose that’s intense and compact, with mineral and dark fruit aromas. It feels rich and muscular but not heavy, with berry, licorice, buttery oak and vanilla flavors. The finish is minty and chocolaty tasting. Carmenère, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah make up the blend.
