Loel 1989 Alasia Red (Commandaria)

  1. $18
Cyprus’s historic dessert wine is well represented in this aged selection. On the nose, toasted nut, spice and citrus. A nicely balanced and rich array of spice, nut and bright lemon character on the palate give the wine an opulent yet lively feel. A unique wine, and delicious with dried fruit, cheese, nuts.  — S.K.  (3/1/2012)

Tsiakkas 2003 Oak Aged Cabernet Sauvignon (Pitsilia Mountains)

  1. $22
A surprise from this region of Cyprus, this is a fully modern, smooth effort. The nose is a bit rambunctious, and the wine needs time to knit together, but it has good tannic structure and nicely integrated oak that offers cola flavors and aromas of vanilla, tobacco and spice to accompany the sweet blackberry and cherry flavors. The finish is long and mouthwatering.  — M.D.  (12/15/2006)
