The wine comes from a parcel on the steep slopes of Chiroubles called Les Roches, appropriately enough with its very stony soil. It is a gorgeous, ripe wine, with light toast over the black fruits, ripe plums, cherries. The tannins are now soft, but still give weight to the rich, velvet texture of the sumptuous fruits.

Made from old vines and aged in wood, this is a rich, dense, now mature wine. The bright red fruit is softened by the wood, rounded out, then balanced with tannins.

Great structure and ripe fruit produce a wine that has both sweetness, concentration and richness. The spice and acidity combine to create a full-bodied wine, packed with black berry fruits and an edge of minerality.

Chiroubles, at the highest altitude of the Beaujolais cru villages, produces structured wines, and this is no exception. The tannins are bare bones under the textured flesh of plum skins and dried fruits. Mineral and austere at this stage, the wine needs aging.

There is an austere character to this wine, tannins edged with minerality. It has weight as well as concentration and, as compensation, sweet cherry juice to go with all this structure.
