Henry Fessy 2009 Gamay (Fleurie)

  1. $20
Enthusiast 100 2011
A richly aromatic wine, with swathes of sweet fruit, ripe tannins and a juicy, jammy feel. This is so generous, open, welcoming. There is structure as well, cushioned by the sweet fruits.  — R.V.  (10/1/2011)

Domaine Chignard 2006 Cuvée Spéciale Gamay (Fleurie)

  1. $25
There’s an explosion of rich, intense fruit here: dried prunes, black plums and even some licorice. The wine is attractively edged with wood, giving a fine, ripe finish.  — R.V.  (9/1/2008)

Georges Duboeuf 2009 Prestige Gamay (Fleurie)

  • Online Exclusive
One of Duboeuf’s 2009 successes, this is powerful, excellently balanced between solid tannins and fresh fruit. The black cherry flavors revolve around a dry core, concentrated and complex, with a full and ageworthy aftertaste.  — R.V.  (12/31/2010)

Georges Duboeuf 2008 Domaine des Quatre Vents Gamay (Fleurie)

  1. $17
Opulent and generous, this is one of Duboeuf’s most charming wines. That is not to say it doesn’t have structure balanced with the layers of red fruits, but it is the richness allied to a velvet texture that makes it so attractive. Give the acidity six months to calm down, and the wine will be ready.  — R.V.  (11/1/2009)

Château du Chatelard 2006 Cuvée Tradition Gamay (Fleurie)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $25
Aged in wood, this cuvée is powerful, ripe and intense. The jellied red fruits are all sweet and rich, touched by acidity but mainly with good depth of flavor and structure. It would even be worth aging this for another year.  — R.V.  (9/1/2008)

Domaine Chignard 2005 Cuvée Spéciale Gamay (Fleurie)

  1. $22
Gamay often becomes more like Pinot Noir as it ages. That’s true of this wine, which displays strawberry and spice flavors, as well as an element of minerality. The aftertaste has ripe blackberry jelly.  — R.V.  (9/1/2008)
