Château les Cèdres 2009 Red (Côtes de Bourg)

Rounded and smooth, this wine has fine acidity to go with its black plum and herbal flavors. The fruit is full in the mouth, richly spiced, while also textured with dusty tannins. Worth aging, but deliciously juicy now.  — R.V.  (11/1/2011)

Château Haut-Guiraud 2005 Péché du Roy Red (Côtes de Bourg)

Well-balanced, showing great red fruits, finely grained wood and a dry core of tannins. There is acidity and spice alongside ripe herbs. This is almost ready to drink now, although the tannins and acidity suggest aging for 3–5 years.  — R.V.  (6/1/2008)

Château Grand-Maison 2006 Cuvée Spéciale Red (Côtes de Bourg)

  • Online Exclusive
A smooth wine, its tannins immersed in sweet fruit, spice and black currant flavors. It is firm, likely to age for a few years, with a good dense structure and a great burst of final black fruit.  — R.V.  (6/1/2010)

Roc de Cambes 1996 Red (Côtes de Bourg)

  1. $29
Heavy black cherries and sweet vanilla oak mark this classy unclassified Bordeaux that carries itself like a big-reputation label. Somewhat Californian with its forward fruit, but the earthy, leafy side is all France. A lot of wine here; the fruit is piercing and the wood touch is right on.  — M.S.  (12/31/1999)

Bernard Magrez 2003 Château Guerry Red (Côtes de Bourg)

  1. $32
Unusual for Bordeaux, this chateau’s plantings contain 20% Malbec, imparting a strong blackberry character to the wine. There's smoky oak, too, and intriguing spice and juiciness on the finish. Imported by Bernard Magrez.  — W.E.  (11/1/2007)

Château Grand-Maison 2009 Cuvée Spéciale Red (Côtes de Bourg)

  1. $19
As happens in Côtes de Bourg, Malbec forms part of the blend in this wine. This would explain the firm dry tannins that give it a big structure and weight. Along with the dry character, there is the beginnings of red berry fruit. The wine needs several years.  — R.V.  (2/1/2012)

Château Plaisance 2005 Red (Côtes de Bourg)

  1. $20
A lively, fresh wine, packed with red berry fruits and a vibrant acidity. The tannins come as much from the fruit as the new wood. It will age, probably 3–4 years.  — R.V.  (6/1/2008)
