Château Latour 2005 Red (Pauillac)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $2000
A great wine, the summation of a great vintage in Bordeaux. The core of richness, the dense, bone-dry tannins, the black currants, red berries and black plum skins are the elements, but it’s the way they have been integrated that makes this such an impressive wine. There is great elegance as well, a fabulous counterpoint to such power. Cellar for at least 15 years…  — R.V.  (6/1/2008)

Château Lafite Rothschild 2005 Red (Pauillac)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $1200
Initially dense, almost black enough to be attacked with a knife. But then it becomes apparent that this is a beautifully integrated, balanced wine, bringing together power, with the hallmark Lafite style and poise. In the end, you have a wine that promises an impressive aging potential along with delicious black currant fruits, acidity and a layer of striking…  — R.V.  (6/1/2008)

Château Pontet-Canet 2009 Barrel sample Red (Pauillac)

  • Online Exclusive
98-100 Barrel sample. A superb wine, with the purest fruit, great freshness and ripeness. It is certainly structured with dry tannins, but the blackcurrant freshness is all there. The wine has a great limpid, flowing feel, lbut also power.  — R.V.  (8/9/2010)

Château Lafite Rothschild 2000 Red (Pauillac)

  1. $400
Perhaps of all the first growths in the totally un-classic 2000, this retains most of the classic Bordeaux. It is certainly almost black in color, while the new wood flavors are very present. But it shows an impressive restraint, leaving the power of the wine to be revealed over the years rather than immediately. This could well be the longest-lived of the Pauillac…  — R.V.  (6/1/2003)

Château Latour 2009 Red (Pauillac)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $2300
A big, powerful wine that sums up the richness of the vintage. It is densely fruity, spicy with an enormous black plum and berry fruit character to go with the acidity. It’s concentrated while still showing such wonderfully pure fruit. The aging potential is immense.  — R.V.  (2/1/2012)

Château Latour 2005 Barrel sample Red (Pauillac)

98-100 Barrel Sample. This has to be the wine of the vintage. It sums up all the positives of a great year: glorious fruit, power, elegance and acidity to balance. The tannins are enormous but they are still brooding rather than extracted. 87% of Cabernet Sauvignon.  — R.V.  (6/20/2006)

Château Latour 2010 Barrel sample Red (Pauillac)

97-99. This has great beauty, with delicious fruits at the beginning. The structure comes from behind, with such sweet fruit tannins, then chocolate, an edge of wood and finally acidity reigns supreme.  — R.V.  (6/25/2011)
