Château Haut-Brion 2005 Red (Pessac-Léognan)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $1500
A big, virile wine, dominated by dark and firm tannins. The structure comes from powerful black fruits, the wood only showing as dry edge to the tannins. It’s firm, obviously destined for long aging, with initial blackberry fruits powering through the density. A stupendous wine that will last many decades.  — R.V.  (6/1/2008)

Château Haut-Brion 2007 White (Pessac-Léognan)

  • Cellar Selection
  • Online Exclusive
  1. $800
The palate opens slowly, offering an initial citrus character, followed by wood and then, finally, wonderfully rich, but taut fruit. There is still a toast character here, with apricots and pear on top of the citrus, but it is still only just developing. In 10–15 years, it will be a magnificent wine.  — R.V.  (12/15/2010)

Château Haut-Brion 2010 Red (Pessac-Léognan)

  • Cellar Selection
A firm and serious wine, complex and complicated, one of the finest wines from 2010 vintage. It has a rich undertow of black fruits, while the tannins dominate at this stage. To add to the powerful range of flavors, the wine has an edge of severity that bodes well for its long-term future.  — R.V.  (5/1/2013)

Domaine de Chevalier 2001 White (Pessac-Léognan)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $100
This is one of the legendary whites of Bordeaux. It lives up to its reputation. The 2001 vintage of the Domaine de Chevalier white (tasted from half bottle) is well-evolved, packed with flavors of almonds, toast, spice, fresh grapefruits, white fruits and an impressive layer of acidity. It will age for a good 20 years or more. Expect a full bottle to be less…  — R.V.  (6/1/2005)

Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2005 Red (Pessac-Léognan)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $1500
Dark and dense, but with such opulent fruit, this is a year when La Mission shows its softer, richer side by comparison with neighbor Haut-Brion. There is spice and exotic and generous red fruits to give with the concentration. It has great power, but it also has a velvet structure.  — R.V.  (6/1/2008)

Domaine de Chevalier 2007 White (Pessac-Léognan)

  • Cellar Selection
Wonderfully aromatic, this sure-to-be legendary wine offers richness, ripeness, and pure yellow fruits, peaches and apricots, all alongside a structured strain of chalky minerality. It is a wine for long aging, the wood spice just becoming integrated, the fruit still in its first vibrancy. But even now, it fills the mouth with generous fruits, and a great finish of…  — R.V.  (7/1/2009)

Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2010 Barrel sample Red (Pessac-Léognan)

  • Online Exclusive
96-98 Very powerful, concentrated wine with the ripest fruit. Blackberry flavors are supplemented by almost stinging acidity, then mitigated by the velvet tannins. A wine that will age for several decades.  — R.V.  (6/25/2011)

Such a generous and ripe wine, with a dark core of tannins surrounded by opulent fruit. Black fruits, coffee, very concentrated flavors, a powerhouse of structure and richness. The warmth of the wine is palpable, as is the aging potential.  — R.V.  (2/1/2012)
