Saint-Estèphe has a reputation for tannins, and this 2005 Cos lives up to that. But it does much more, because the tannins add richness along with intensely ripe black fruits, dark plums and figs. The dense tannins are finely balanced with fresh acidity, and a long-lasting aftertaste. Impressive.

96-98 Barrel sample. All the right elements are here. The wine is powerful, but has a wonderful lift of fresh fruit, spiced with wood but never too much. The tannins are sweet, ripe and delicious. It shows both gorgeous fruit and a dense structure.

This is an architectural wine, very classical in its structure like so many of the top wines of 2010. It’s powered by ripe tannins and beautiful black currant fruits. While the wine is gorgeously ripe, it also has a powerful dark and structured character. For long-term aging.

95-97 Barrel sample. A hugely dense wine, packed with fruit tannins, with only a touch of wood showing through. There's a touch of peppermint, too. Firm and solid; a real blockbuster .

95-97 Barrel sample. A wine that feels big but not heavy. With a solid structure, the wine shows black density at the same time as the blackcurrant juice of Cabernet shines through.

95-97 Such a powerful wine, although with rounded flavors, very ripe in character. The wine has chocolate and dark coffee flavors to go with the juicy fruit. The acidity gives just the right balance.

95-97 Huge tannins, a wine that is so concentrated and structured. The fruit is rich, with the acidity giving just enough freshness. It's a formidable wine, a huge mouthful of dense tannin and the ripest fruit.

Enormous tannins, dominant black fruit and a solid, dense structure. The wine, packed with dark fruits, dry tannins, very firm in character. With its huge tannins as well as fruit, this is a wine that really needs many years of aging.
