Joseph Drouhin 2009 Pinot Noir (Chorey-lès-Beaune)

  • Editors' Choice
  1. $25
From its situation on the plain outside Beaune, Chorey is often overlooked. A wine like this, ripe and smooth, full of red fruit, offers a deliciously juicy drink and represents a great value in red Burgundy. Drink now, or keep for two years.  — R.V.  (5/1/2012)

Joseph Drouhin 2003 Pinot Noir (Chorey-lès-Beaune)

  1. $24
From land owned by the Drouhin family, this is a light, finely perfumed wine that will develop quickly into a delicious, easy, very attractive Pinot. Structure and fruit are all there, and are well in balance. Imported by Dreyfus Ashby & Co.  — R.V.  (9/1/2005)

Domaine A. Machard de Gramont 2008 Les Beau Monts Pinot Noir (Chorey-lès-Beaune)

Restrained and elegant, this is a wine on the austere side, its acidity dominant along with a firm, dry aftertaste. Produced by the other Machard de Gramont estate.  — R.V.  (12/31/2010)

Joseph Drouhin 2005 Pinot Noir (Chorey-lès-Beaune)

  • Online Exclusive
  1. $29
From one of the good value communes at the northern end of the Côte de Beaune, this Chorey is soft, juicy with strawberry flavors and framed by tannins. The acidity is there, but the effect is of a ripe, easy wine, ready to drink now.  — R.V.  (8/1/2008)

Joseph Drouhin 1995 Pinot Noir (Chorey-lès-Beaune)

  1. $19
Restrained, tight black-cherry nose. Lean, elegant black-cherry fruit in the mouth. Shows classic light Pinot Noir character from an appellation not noted for big wines but which is becoming more popular among budget-conscious buyers as Burgundy prices climb. Perfect with grilled salmon and poultry.  — W.E.  (11/15/1999)

Joseph Drouhin 2006 Pinot Noir (Chorey-lès-Beaune)

  1. $23
Quite a firm wine, the tannins giving smoky bacon flavors over some tight dryness. The fruit is there—juicy red currant fruit, topped by bright, fresh acidity.  — R.V.  (10/1/2009)

Joseph Drouhin 2003 Pinot Noir (Chorey-lès-Beaune)

  1. $21
Chorey is known for its relatively light, cherry-scented wines, but in the drought vintage of 2003, this is an impressively dark effort, loaded with plums, black cherries and even a bit of chocolate fudge. It’s full-bodied and a bit chunky, but nicely textured and shows good concentration and length.  — W.E.  (3/1/2006)
