Louis Jadot 2005 Pinot Noir (Clos de la Roche)

  • Cellar Selection
  1. $138
This is a powerhouse of a wine. It is driven forward by immense tannins as well as by superrich fruit that still keeps itself in check by a velvet texture. There is spice, acidity, some toast and vanilla, and finally a sunburst of warmth.  — R.V.  (8/1/2008)

Domaine Dujac 2009 Clos de la Roche Pinot Noir (Clos de la Roche)

  1. $304
Very opulent, very rich, this is a complex, structured wine packed with fruit and brooding tannins. It is already rich, and will develop into a beautifully intense, concentrated and generous wine.  — R.V.  (9/1/2011)

Joseph Drouhin 2004 Pinot Noir (Clos de la Roche)

  1. $112
Great power, delicious fruit and dusty tannins are all present in an elegant parcel. This is an impressive wine, with a balanced structure and texture. And the fruit is so ripe, so seductive without going over the top. Drink in 2012.  — R.V.  (3/1/2007)

Domaine Dujac 2004 Pinot Noir (Clos de la Roche)

  1. $165
On the northern boundary of Morey Saint-Denis, this vineyard produces wines that show some of the power of neighboring Gevrey-Chambertin. This wine, from the hands of the Seysses family, has all that power; it’s packed with very rich red fruits and layers of acidity, sweet tannins and a delicious, lifted finish. Impressive wine, with an obvious ability to age.  — R.V.  (3/1/2007)

Louis Jadot 2004 Pinot Noir (Clos de la Roche)

A big, concentrated wine, dominated by black fruits, some minerality and a dense, solid structure. Attractive herb and perfumed aromas of violets hint at a future when it will be more seductive.  — R.V.  (3/1/2007)

Bouchard Aîné & Fils 2005 Pinot Noir (Clos de la Roche)

  1. $93
Wines from Morey-Saint-Denis should be opulent in 2005, and this wine has opulence in spades. It fills the mouth with rich red plums, red cherries and some cranberry juice to give an edge of dryness. Maybe complexity is edged out by all this juicy fruit, but the tannins do firm up the wine, which should certainly age 10 years or more.  — R.V.  (8/1/2008)

Bouchard Aîné & Fils 2004 Pinot Noir (Clos de la Roche)

  1. $93
A wine from the Grand Cru Clos de la Roche in Morey-Saint-Denis, this is big, rounded, packed with cherry and balancing wood flavors. It has power and generosity. It also packs quite a firm tannin edge, which promises some good aging.  — R.V.  (3/1/2007)

Bouchard Aîné & Fils 2009 Cuvee Signature Pinot Noir (Clos de la Roche)

  1. $165
This is broad and quite soft, with a dense, jammy red-fruit flavor. It has tannins that are buried in the rich fruit, giving shape to the wine. This is likely to mature soon.  — R.V.  (11/1/2012)
