Starts with honey and spice aromas that give way to ultraripe pears and smoky minerals on the palate. This is a Mâcon of uncommon finesse and harmony, ending with an extra flourish of spice. Drink now–2010. Imported by Daniel Johnnes Wines.

Proprietor Jean-Marie Chaland crafts this cuvée from 50-year-old vines that are being transitioned to biodynamie. Smells like honey and spice, then delivers incredible ripe pear flavors and great richness balanced by minerality. Long on the finish.

This early release gives a sense of the improvements made at Prosper Maufoux, as well as a taste of the potential quality of the 2005 vintage. Spiced pears and minerals add enough honeyed notes on the palate to seem rich, then finish long. This is all from a single grower, according to Fairchild.
