Pretty standard stuff, making it something of a disappointment in an Erste Gewächs context. Petrol notes upfront, followed by honey, pear and citrus fruit and a long, mineral-inflected finish. It’s good, but this sample didn’t sparkle.

This medium-bodied Riesling displays the peachy ripeness of the Rhine regions, allied to hints of melon, stuck flint and wet stone. Turns just a bit tart and lean on the finish.

Kesseler’s gems are the GG wines, but this is a medium-bodied, cleanly made introduction to the estate. Petrol, apple and wet stone notes are pretty standard Riesling fare, rendered in a crisp, refreshing style.

Crisp currant flavors and a touch of sweet acidity play with fine ripe fruit to make an attractive, early drinking style of wine. —R.V.

Something of a disappointment from a top producer. The wine has rustic aromas and flavors which hide the obvious potential. There are hints of quince flavors and acidity, which could well make the wine come good.

The dryness gives this wine a hard edge which makes it difficult to enjoy. But there is concentrated fruit with flavors of almonds and green fruits and a layer of yeastiness and pepperiness. It should develop over the next few years.

A solid kabinett with bright scents of pineapple that seem to peter out a bit in the glass, replaced by melon and apple flavors that carry this medium-weight wine across the palate.
